Sustainability

Esquimalt High School was one of the first schools in Canada to develop the High School Sustainability Assessment Framework in partnership with the Sierra Club of Canada’s Youth Coalition.  Since then students, staff and members of the community have continued to work together to:

  • build a deep understanding of a wide range of sustainability issues
  • implement plans to decrease the ecological footprint of the school’s operation
  • increase awareness of the relationships between the environmental, economic and social justice aspects of sustainability

Some of the many school groups involved in this work have included student clubs such as:

  1. ESCAPE (Esquimalt Students Caring About Peace and the Environment):
    1. Amnesty International’s Write for Rights
    2. Fundraising for World Wildlife Fund
    3. Victoria International Development Education Association (VIDEA)
  2. Outdoors Club
  3. Interact (Rotary International)
  4. EYCI (Esquimalt Youth for Change and Inclusion)
  5. Gay/Straight Alliance

Please contact the school to find the most appropriate staff member or student for more information.
