The Swim Team begins practicing twice each week early in September at the Esquimalt Recreation Centre. The focus of practices is to train for the Island Swim Championship held the first weekend of November. Swim Team is open to swimmers of all ability levels including Winter Club, Summer Club and Novice (swimmers who have never before swum on a swim team other than their school teams). Team members work on conditioning, stroke improvement, starts and turns. We also play games such as water polo and have access to the hot tub after practice.
The provincial championships are held in November and swimmers qualify for this event at the Island Championships.
If there is enough interest team continues to practice once a week during the third term to help students stay in shape and prepare for life-saving classes. Activities in May involve fund-raising and swimming in the hospice swimathon at Commonwealth Place. Non-swim team members are welcome to participate in the swimathon as well.
